Stephen Salmieri has had successful and varied career in photography which includes photo journalism, advertising and publishing. He is represented in many private and museum collections around the world. His interest in photographing children, his first love in photography, was re-ignited by his partnership with Sydnie Michele. Besides being a superb lensman and a masterful darkroom technician, Stephen has a playful essence that provokes babies and children to laugh out loud.

This successful collaboration is frequently noticed and acknowledged as a unique combining of talents for extraordinary results.


HOW WE WORK

For the past 18 years the fine art photographic output of Sydnie Michele and Stephen Salmieri has been centered on the subject of family with a special interest in the baby and child. Working out of the classic tradition of black and white pictorial photography, and enhanced by antique toning processes, They have established a reputation for sensitive and evocative portraits that capture the radiant beauty of childhood. An essential element of the photographic rapport is created through an atmosphere that is natural and spontaneous. Their approach to photography (as well as to life) is informed by an intuitive and playful mode, backed by solid photographic craftsmanship and technical expertise.

Working at your location, we utilize flattering lighting techniques, both studio and natural. A careful choice of setting, attention to detail, and optimum time of day to shoot all add to the creative mix. A hands-on approach is maintained at every level of production. Exhibition quality prints in a range of sizes are processed by us in our darkroom to exacting archival standards. We use the finest quality silver gelatin fiber paper, and maintain the highest standard in flawless retouching. Tone and color are important elements that can be added to select prints through the deft and subtle process of sepia toning and finely rendered hand-tinting. The importance of skillful editing cannot be underestimated as one of the primary elements of a successful photographic display. We take great pride and pleasure in exercising all of these skills.
